Flewid was born from a personal spark — and a collective urgency.
Founded in 2016 by Emi Marchionni, Italy’s first transgender editor-in-chief, Flewid emerged at a time when gender fluidity was barely acknowledged in mainstream culture. What began as a radical act of survival is now a fearless platform for transformation, visibility, and unfiltered expression.
The name Flewid blends flew — movement, freedom, flight — with ID, Freud’s raw, instinctual core of self. It’s a manifesto in motion: desire unbound, identity in flux, limits erased.
Letter from the Editor
When I launched Flewid, it wasn’t just a magazine. It was a refusal — to be simplified, silenced, or seen only through someone else’s lens. As a transgender woman working in fashion, I learned early how much visibility costs. I also learned how vital it is. Flewid was my way of reclaiming space — for myself, and for everyone told they didn’t belong. This magazine is shaped by the fierce, fluid nature of identity. It’s built on contradiction, transformation, and style as survival. It’s where fashion speaks when words fall short, and complexity is celebrated — not corrected. Today, as political backlash intensifies against trans and queer lives, Flewid stays rooted in joy, resistance, and representation. It is a living archive of those who defy binaries, refuse easy definitions, and shape culture from the margins. Thank you for flying with us.
